It happened today, it happened in a seedy underbelly of a bar called the Silver Fox. It happened it South Florida, it happened to an entire city. It happened, and I can finally let go of the fear. It happened, the Miami Dolphins won a game in the 2007 NFL season. I looked in the mirror today and told myself to put on my Dolphins hat and my Dolphins coat and go into public. I left my house, at 12:07 p.m., the Dolphins were down 10-13. I arrived at the Silver Fox in Pacific Beach because I heard that the Jon Contera from XX sports radio was going to be there and I thought I could get in a good conversation with him and watch the end of the Dolphins game. As I arrived people spotted my Dolphins gear and treated me as if I had some type of mental retardation. They just kept saluting me and telling me I had “character”. I laughed with them and played along to the tune of the poor and laughable Dolphins fan. As the Dolphins tied up the score people kept updating me and saying “this could be it”, but I knew better. I just kept saying that this has happened in about 5 other games this year. As a matter of fact the Dolphins have lost 5 games this year by 3 points or fewer. With the Dolphins now up by three with under one minute the Ravens were driving. With 20 seconds left the Ravens threw a pass to the left and the receiver dove towards the end-zone. That was it, game over, 0-14. Wait! The officials are saying he didn’t make it into the end-zone! The Ravens kick a field goal and send the game into the overtime. In overtime the Ravens are driving farther and farther into Dolphin territory. They get into field goal range to end the game. Their kicker is Matt Stover, he’s automatic. From 47 yards………………….he misses! He never misses! Dolphins get the ball back and start driving. On about the 35 yard line they are faced with a 3rd and 8. Cleo Lemon fires it to a kid that I’ve never even heard of. His name is Camarillo, and he runs 64 yards for a touchdown to end the game. He runs 64 yards to give Miami their first win of the year. 64 yards that made an entire stadium erupt, an owner cry, and a hairy football fan yell into the late afternoon air. Thank you Dolphins for winning, thank you for caring, thank you for not giving up, and most of all thanks for not being the worst ever.
The world stops as the dolphins win
