Questions from a Dodgers Fan to a Padres Fan

1.”Why did your GM derail the season by messing with the roster so much? It seems he always overtinkers, this year bringing in a bunch of unnecessary parts mid-year.”

I feel the same way, I thought that bringing in Bradley and Barrett were good upgrades, even with Bradley’s past. The thing that switched my opinion on him was the fact that Peter Gammons came on XX sports radio and proclaimed about how great of a guy Bradley was and talked about all the letters Bradley had sent to him while he was sick. I thought that was amazing, but I still remember the incident when he threw a water bottle back into the stands at a fan. I was in between and was awaiting to see what he could produce. Luckily he has become the best hitter on the Padres (which is kind of like saying that he is the fastest kid at an overweight summer camp). As for Barrett, I was genuinely happy to see him get out of Chicago and away from Carolos Zambrano, one of the most unstable pitchers I’ve ever seen. Also I would rather have Barrett and Bard then Bard and Bowen. They really should of stopped there. Instead they went out and got Ensberg and Mackowiak. I know they wanted a deeper bench but I agree with you, let the team play. Don’t bring another team in to play the rest of the season, especially when they aren’t even impact players.

2.”The second question is, how come Padres fans don’t hate the Giants? Is it because there is more distance from SD to SF? I mean, hating the Dodgers makes some sense, but nothing for the Giants? LA fans don’t hate anyone, but we do dislike the Pads and Giants equally - they’re divisional, and interstate rivals. Heck, we even don’t like the D’Backs, though the Rockies are usually too inept to care about much.”

I have no idea about this. The craziest thing I heard in the last 10 years is that when Barry Bonds hit his record tying home run in San Diego, there was actually not that cold of a reception, and from that point on they crowd somewhat cheered him. I just don’t get it, I thought that something epic and negative would come forth as soon as he hit that home run, but nothing, absolutely nothing. It really isn’t fair that LA gets it from San Fran and San Diego, but I guess that hatred in sports is the greatest form of flattery, I mean who hates the Kansas City Royals? Besides people who live in Kansas City. The Padres are just kind of the kid who jumps on someone else’s rivalry once the two are already fighting. I mean in baseball it’s New York Boston and San Fran LA. You would think that San Diego would start to build some type of anger towards the Giants in the near future though, mainly because they have three ex-Padres and their old manger.

Thanks for responding. The Beat LA thing is funny - from the way the Dodgers hear than chant around the country, you’d assume they’ve won something the past 20 years. haha

I can see people being jealous of LA - but not the LA baseball team. The weather, the beautiful people, the superficiality of it all, sure, but a team that’s won 1 playoff game since 1988??!! It would make more sense to say Beat Florida!!

I like Barrett too - very good offensive catcher, saved my butt in fantasy leagues many times. Milton is a lunatic, but a gifted player. He’s been one of the best mid-year acquisitions by far, just don’t expect him to change his ways. Enjoy his production, then move on. He’s insane, and a troubled guy.

I don’t get some of the secondary moves - all the bits and pieces that were added, guys who do basically the same thing and seem to negate one another - no one can play regularly and get into a rhythm because the manager needs to constantly rotate all these guys. Not a fan, and I think it’s one reason AZ slipped ahead of everyone in the West.

I am jealous of LA, entourage is there. I can’t believe that Bradley has become the MVP of the position players. Don’t worry, i hate florida more and jaun pierre’s stupid rap at the world series celebration when they beat the Yanks. It seems like the line-up is becoming more stable now in SD, and their getting hot. See you this weekend in the no home run zone known as Petco. Side note: I’ve been to about 9 games so far this season and seen maybe 2 home runs, and they were both by Ryan Howard.
