Ever since I started watching the Little League World Series I’ve began to notice that they’re all running together. Every year there are the same kind of teams with the same freakishly huge 12 year old “kids” that are already throwing in the upper 70’s. Every year I am amazed with their talent and their skills, but every year feels like the last and I think I may have thought of a way to change things up a bit and creat an even more entertaining product.
As you know the teams that are represented are all-star teams from a respective town that won the state championships of that year and then passed on through regionals. Here is my idea, instead of having the all-star teams of each town go at it, I think it should be the best overall team from their leagues should play. This is what I mean, don’t allow them to make an all-star team. I want to watch the teams that were made in the season, complete with the kids who are horrible at the sport. I was a kid who took baseball very seriously in little league but I was still able to really just sit back and admire the kid who for some reason was involved with little league baseball, but absolutely had no interest to what was going on in the game. I want to see those kids in the little league world series. I want to see the greatest players in the United States have to deal with the kids that were put on their teams in the regular season. The kid in right field who is cleating out his name in the grass. The kids whose parents put him in little league because he or she was homeschooled and needed social interaction. I want to see the teams that I was on in little league have to fight their way to the top. I was on all-star teams in little league, but it was always so serious. I loved playing with the kid who would run away from the field every time he struck out. No all-star teams, just the best original put together teams from the regular season. America would be introduced to a greater spectrum of what little league is about, making sure that the really untalented kids touch the ball the least amount possible.
