Zinc

November 30th, 2007 · No Comments

Without zinc, more than 200 enzymes would have a very hard time carrying out their assigned function within the body.  For example, there are 25 different enzymatic systems involved in digestion and metabolism in which zinc plays a major role.  Zinc also works with more than 80 enzymes that help red blood cells move carbon dioxide from tissues to the lungs.  Additionally, zinc is essential for great skin.  In this role, zinc helps the enzymes that maintain the body’s collagen supply.  Zinc helps the enzymes that digest damaged collagen and rebuild new collagen function properly.

Other benefits of zinc include: helping the lymphatic system eliminate waste, promoting cell division, cell repair & cell growth, improving one’s sense of taste and smell, fertility and sexual development.

“So how can I get more zinc in my diet?” You may be wondering.  And if so, great question.  The following foods when eaten raw are the best sources of zinc:

Coconuts

Sesame seeds

Sunflower seeds

Macadamia nuts

Pine nuts

Cashews

Pecans

Pumpkin seeds

Poppy seeds

Give the enzymatic processes within your body a boost by regularly eating these rich zinc containing foods.
