Naked Juice made a huge contribution to helping the fire fighters.

On Tuesday while doing chiropractic at the firefighter command center set up at the Longs Drugs in Rancho Bernardo, we were told by many of the firefighters that they had only received 2 meals in the past 48 hours. Their meal that they were eating when we saw them, which was the second in 48 hours, was a military M.R.E.

(An actual meal about to be eaten by a guy who said he has only eaten once in the past 48 hours before this.)

That night I went for a walk with my wife Jo on the beach and we talked about it. We decided that number one, I should go back again the next day to do more chiropractic, and two, we should bring some good food. We both agreed that the best thing we could bring would be fresh squeezed juice. While I wrote the blog for the night, my wife went to store to buy $200 of Naked Juice and another brand.

The next day we handed out the $200 of juice within a few minutes. The guys and gals were thrilled.

(This is Roseanna giving Naked Juice to a firefighter about to head out!)

On Wednesday as we drove back from the fire zone, I called Jason at Whole Foods market in La Jolla who I have worked with for a decade on all kinds of projects. I asked for the San Diego contact numbers of Naked Juice.

I called the product rep at Naked Juice who was in an airplane back east about to take off. She called me back before she took off and gave me the local number, I apologize but I forgot her name. I called the number she gave me and spoke to Brendon Graham.

I briefly told Brendon the situation and that the San Diego fire fighters needed help, and they needed it now.

(Cheng Cheng handing out the first of 720 bottles.)

He simply asked me how much? and what size juices? I asked for whatever they could give. He told me to send someone to their Miramar office at 6:00 A.M. and they would load up the back of a truck.

One of our patients, Amanda brought her husband’s pick up truck the next morning, and they loaded her up with 720 bottles of Naked Juice.

We drove the juice to the Kit Carson park where the main FireCamp had been set up. We immediately began handing them to the firefighters who were incredibly grateful.

(Cheng Cheng delivering a case of Naked Juice to a happy firefighter.)

Can you imagine either coming back from fighting a blazing overheated fire all day, or on your way to one, carrying a case of icy Naked Juice? Now that is living!

(I’d be thirsty too after facing the blaze!)

Super huge thanks to Brendon, the unnamed Naked Juice rep, and the entire company for producing the healthiest product in the whole world, and making it available without a seconds hesitation to the fire fighters who needed it.

(Cheng Cheng flashing her sorority colors, where she is the president!)

(Hector racing to get them out quickly!)

I have always loved Naked Juice for the tastiness of their product and its health value, but now they have earned my loyalty for their service to man.

(Me and a happy firefighter.)

Well Done Naked Juice!

On Tuesday, the second big day of the fire, we were out in Rancho Bernardo doing chiropractic on firefighters in the evacuated zone and heard their stories. We were told by some of the firefighters that they had received only two meals in a 48 hour period.

On the drive back to the office I called one of my good friends Kevin Kupper who is the manager of Chipotle burrito restaurant. Kevin understood the problem and said he would get right to work on it.

(Kevin making the call to get the burritos “rolling”.)

By 8:00 that same night Chipotle Pacific Beach had a box with around 35 Steak and Chicken burritos hot and ready to go. I went home, grabbed my wife Jo and we took off into the night.

We stopped at the Poway Chipotle store and they doubled our burrito cargo. Now we had around 70 burritos.

(The Poway Chipotle crew with half of the big delivery.)
We found the firefighters camping out in a park in Rancho Bernardo. We got a police escort to the park after they realized we were not looters, but burrito deliverers. So escorted by the police, we arrived at the park. With no light to see by, I wandered the park and spoke to the firefighters and left them with a warm burrito to keep them company!

(Late night dark park burrito delivery!)
As we were leaving the closed off evacuated zone, we had to get passed a National Guard Checkpoint. The boys looked very serious until we offered them a Chipotle burrito. Can you imagine standing in the cold of night on a dead quiet street in an evacuated zone when a couple pull up in a Range Rover and offer you a Chipotle burrito?

(Those aren’t hand grenades we;re holding, but burritos!)
After a few minutes a military Hummer pulled up and the guys got a little more serious again. After a few minutes they told us it was their commander, the big guy! I walked over and talked to him. I believe he wanted chicken!

They were such a pleasure to meet in the night and gave us a good feeling that peoples homes were being well protected.

They directed us to Kit Carson park where firefighters were arriving from all over the Western U.S. We immediately found a group of firefighters who had just arrived for FireStorm 2007 from another fire in Los Angeles. They were surprised and thrilled to get burritos from Chipotle.

(A group of L.A. firefighters and my wife Jo with their secret burrito weapon.)
We then wandered around the camp handing out burritos to all.

(The policemand and Sheriff sharing a midnight burrito.)

We gave burritos to cops, firefighters and national guardsmen.

(Escondido Police and National Guardsman sharing a burrito together!)

I got hungry along the way and even had one myself! It was delicious!

I started to wonder if any war could be ended just by handing out burritos to all sides?

I am so incredibly appreciative to Kevin and all the crew at the Pacific Beach and Poway Chipotle’s. It was so much fun to brighten up these guys nights with a warm burrito.
Chipotle is a great company, with great food given with a generous heart.

A huge thank you to all of you! The sticker below on the box says it all!
Dr. David Klein

They then make a cocoon like this, (the guy who was inside has obviously left).

I am not sure, but I think this next picture may be one of the guys on their way out. At least he could afford San Diego Real Estate!

The next four pictures are of one of the guys we found after they had gotten out of their houses. You can probably start to see what they were.

and

and then I am still now sure if they just cook in the sun, or if the other one was a weird albino, but I don’t think so. So here is the final result after baking in the San Diego sun.

So I learned a lot more about Ladybugs than I used to! They might be called lady bugs, but I think it is ladybugs. When I have shown these ladybug pictures to people, they get kinda freaked out and think it is some weird scary bug. Then they see they were getting freaked out by ladybugs and then they get kinda confused about why they were getting freaked out earlier. Either way, now I understand ladybugs much better than I used to!

Today was one of the best 4th of July’s I have ever had.

Slept in.

Drove to Whole Foods. They had killer samples. The best ones were these swirly cookie, chocolate things, and they had a huge container of them. I took more than one.

We bought Macaroni Salad, Cherries and potato chips.

We drove to La Jolla shores, and of course as expected no parking.

We drove up the hill, and made it all the way to the top before we found any parking at all. We then drove down Torrey Pines road, and low and behold! Parking! About a quarter of a mile away from La Jolla Shores Drive, and barely any elevation gain from sea level.

But how to get the mile to the beach?

We had our bicycles!

Loaded em up with all our stuff, got on our helmets and off we rolled.

A stop at Starbucks for an iced coffee for Jorunn.

If you can find Jorunn, you will find a Starbucks close by.

I look amazingly fit if you hold your thumb right over my stomach and squint while you look at this picture.

Then with tons of traffic meandered to the beach, and tried to figure out with the crazy crowds where to park our bicycles without them getting stolen.

We asked a San Diego Police guy where to park, and if they might get stolen. He said we could park by the drunk trailer they had, within the police lines, and that the police might steal them. He was obviously kidding. So we locked our bikes within 3 feet of two cops and we felt very secure.

We ran into Geoff Hasenauer (forgive me for the spelling) known to all around La Jolla as Hoss, the super hero lifeguard, who is my buddy. We caught up on life with him and he complemented me on my bike. By the way, even the cops complemented my bike!

We then hung out on the beach, a little body surfing, a good rinse, and then back on the bikes.

We rode to Roppongi, locked our bikes to the bench out front, and sat on the patio while slurping our way through half priced tapas and sushi, (daily 4-6).

Then back on the bikes, Jorunn picked up another coffee at the living room, and we rolled down to the cove. We set up in one of the little huts overlooking the body surfing spot with an Indian family. We then watched the sun set, and the fire works turn on.

They launch the fireworks within arms reach of where we were sitting ( a slight exageration ) making it the best place in San Diego to watch fireworks. Kaboom! right in your face!

The fireworks are literally so close you can feel the ka-boom! and feel the heat off of them. This is actually a picture of my head on fire after being hit by a flying fireworks.
After the fireworks with the crowds snailing out of La Jolla, we rolled on our bikes back to the car.

A little pool and jacuzzi when we got home, and now settling down to bed.

A damn fine 4th of July.

It isn’t usual that we have the inside scoop on Hollywood gossip, but Kevin Kupper of Chipotle fame in San Diego, (he runs the P.B. store). He went up to L.A. to hang out with his girlfriends brother Jeremy who is going to be executive producer of a new show staring Jay, from Jay and Silent Bob. Jay got sick, so they hung out at their hotel and ended up hanging out with Andy Milenakas who is also going to be on the same show.

Saturday night Andy was rapping up a storm at his house party and Kevin got blown away by how talented he was. James Duval who has had many small to medium size movie roles was also at the party. Kevin comes from a small town in Texas and needless to say this was a real hoot!

By the way, Kevin also got his official promotion to be the G.M. of Chipotle in Pacific Beach, perhaps the greatest accomplishment of all!

This guy was a genius. He came up with a roller coaster as a model for housing prices in the U.S. He used data that had adjusted housing prices for inflation.

I think anyone who is thinking of buying a home in San Diego needs to see this.

I personally predicted a big real estate crash 4 years ago because the growth just never seemed sustainable. Although I know in San Diego they are not making any more property, and it is about the best place to live in the world, it still just got out of control.

I am still amazed that the prices are still as high as they are. By the way, I own my condo so I will suffer along with everyone else if the prices drop.

Long term I am sure San Diego real estate prices will climb as they always have, but I really think in the next year or two there will be a big drop.

Either way, this roller coaster animation is facinating. It lets you feel just how big the drops and climbs of the real estate market have been in a far more viceral way than anything I have seen before.

When you get to the very end, make sure to look back at the top of the mountain where you started. You may have to watch it twice to see what I am referring to, but I think it will be worth it for you!

I want to get together as many San Diego bloggers as I can as a group. Maybe a sort of mini convention. Who is interested?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Roseanna from my office went with me today to Australia day. First off it was at Admiral Baker field. This place is government property, and is off limits to us civilians most of the time, except for special invites like today.

We got there, and it was fabulous with great people, great food, and a fun time. They had a huge inflatable kangaroo in front that the kids were playing with and on. We found a place to set up CAM our chiropractic robot. We found a place where they cleared back to cakes for us to set up. We plugged it in, but it did not seem to work. Someone told us that the reason we were getting no power, was because all the power of the picnic had turned off.

We thought it was a coincidence. Roseanna and I then noticed that the inflatable Kangaroo had kind of died. It was half deflated and bent over at the waist.

A little while later it appeared the power had come back on. We could tell because the Kangaroo was fully filled and erect!

We then plugged in to try again. Roseanna thought she saw the light on our machine turn on, but when I looked it was out. I thought perhaps that the power just did not work on our outlet.

We looked over and saw the kangaroo bent over again. I imediately felt guilty that it was somehow our fault. Just then one of the Australian officers stationed in San Diego, came over and in the politest most positive way that only an Australian could, he said I think your little machine is drawing too much power from the system.

I looked over and saw the poor kangaroo drooped over and realized we had caused his death again. We decided to give up, and get in line for food.

The kangaroo came back to life!

We still had the massage chair up after lunch, and as expected it drew quite a bit of attention. We met quite a few great people who were interested in what we do. It turned out to be a great day to introduce some San Diego Australians to Seaside Chiropractic.

Thanks again to my great friend who invited us, and I am sorry about killing the kangaroo repeatedly.

Also one thing you must know is that if someone says Ausie Ausie Ausie, then you must yell Oi Oi Oi. I don’t quite understand the significance, but it was awfully fun!
