Just Say No Is Still a Good Idea

Please don’t take the below as medical advice. It is an editorial from me the editor! Ask your doctor before you do anything regarding drugs. Chiropractors can not give drug advice. This is just a commentary on our culture!
It is funny how decades can pass and a good idea is still a good idea. The country took notice to this good idea of “Just Say No”. One would think that by now we would have gotten the message. Our country, our students, and our celebrities still are deeply mired in the problems of drugs. One might ask where it starts? A fortune is spent on drug advertisments from the legitimate drug companies of the U.S.

Wikipedia states that 45% of the worlds legal drugs are sold in the U.S. We have a small percentage of the worlds population, but we sell a huge percentage of the worlds drugs to our citizens.

Is it any wonder when we grow up on drug ads that teach us to take a pill for every ache, pain and problem, that when times are tough, when we are depressed or upset, we turn to alchohol and drugs for a solution. It is funny, it really often depends on whether we are in the doctors office or the night club when we ask for help.

So is it any wonder that so many of our celebrities check in and out of rehab?

Just for the record, now even the FDA, the Food and Drug Administration, quotes the study that Adverse Drug Reactions are listed as the fourth leading cause of death in the United States.

The study listed on the ADA website is:
Lazarou J, Pomeranz B, Corey PN. Incidence of adverse drug reactions in hospitalized patients: A meta-analysis of prospective studies. JAMA 1998;279:1200–1205
