Try to Imagine…

Wednesday, September 10th –  At Seaside Chiropractic earlier this afternoon, while I waited for my adjustment, I was gazing idly at the poster on the wall.  This is a chart that shows a side view of a cut-apart human male, with all his internal organs laid out neatly at the sides, and the nerves running from various segments of the spine to the appropriate organs. And my mind started to wander…

I invite you to mull over this scenario with me and see where your imagination takes you.

GIVEN: that the nervous system controls the functioning of every part of the body. Nerves make it possible for you to move voluntarily, for your heart to beat, for your liver and kidneys and lungs to do their work, and for all other bodily functions to take place. The nervous system controls all the other systems of the body.

GIVEN: that chiropractic deals with the readjustment of subluxations. A subluxation is the condition in which two vertebrae are stuck together in misalignment, and a nerve that runs from the brain to the body is pinched between the stuck bones. Chiropractic relieves this condition by adjusting the vertebrae so that they are no longer stuck in a misaligned position, but are again moving freely and normally. Now the pinched nerve can carry its intended messages from the brain to a particular area of the body.

GIVEN: that almost everybody has some subluxations. As a result of a difficult delivery, falls, accidents, jarring in some way, sitting improperly, and a whole lot of other reasons, pretty much everyone on the planet has at least a nerve or two that are pinched between two stuck vertebrae. If you look at a chiropractic chart of the body’s nerves, you’ll see that each separate area of the spine controls certain nerves that run from the brain to a particular organ. So your frequent headaches could be due to a nerve pinched in the cervical, or neck, area of the spine. Your child’s repeated earaches could also be caused by a subluxation in the cervical area. Maybe the carpal tunnel syndrome in your hands and wrists is caused by a subluxation in the thoracic, or middle, part of the spine, and only aggravated by repetitive motions like working at a computer.

Now, start imagining.  WHAT IF every person in a family went together to a really good licensed chiropractor and had a diagnostic examination, followed by the appropriate treatment for subluxations discovered by the chiropractor? WHAT IF the dad’s insomnia and tinnitus (constant ringing in the ears) were relieved when his subluxations were removed? WHAT IF the mom’s migraines disappeared when the doctor removed her subluxations? WHAT IF the seven-year-old boy stopped wetting his bed, because his lumbar subluxations were relieved? WHAT IF the five-year-old girl’s earaches ceased when her cervical subluxations were treated and removed? And WHAT IF the ten-year-old girl’s repeated bouts of tonsillitis – which had started fairly recently – stopped altogether, once the cervical subluxation (caused by sleeping on her stomach with her head rotated to the side) was corrected?

Can you imagine what a difference all of this would make to the wellbeing of the members of this family? If everybody felt better – with no aches and pains, no weird ringing in the ears, plenty of good sound sleep each night, no more embarrassing and distressing bedwetting, and no more sore, infected tonsils causing talk of surgery – wouldn’t their interactions with each other change?

If everybody felt better… wouldn’t their interactions with each other change?

My mind is boggled by the implications of this fantasy. If it worked in a single family, how about a neighborhood? How about the White House? How about a city? A country? Come on, let’s think globally: what if every single person on the planet was somehow, magically, given the ability to see a qualified chiropractor and have all his or her subluxations corrected?

See where this is going?

Enough for now. Thanks for sticking with me this long. I’m going to go sit outdoors and watch the sunset, and think about what could happen.

Thanks for reading — Betsy

You guys!! You inspire me to adopt “Onward and Upward” as my daily mantra, and NEVER to give up… and to imagine if everybody were as fortunate as I have been. Wow! I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

And Tom — gee, if we could arrange it so that at least the People In High Places got a daily adjustment and had their subluxations removed, that’d go a long way toward fixing things. I love your comment!

Thanks to you all for reading, and for taking the time to leave comments. I love you all… Betsy
